Sport History
Rugby Union   Read more

Rugby started in 1948, the school originally being a soccer school. It soon established and until 1997 was offered as a choice option against soccer, and rowing; this still applies in Senior Games but U15 down now do autumn term rugby and soccer in the spring term, but with an option to row.

At Senior Level we operate 3 or 4 XVs. Apart from the 1st XV the remainder are in a pooled Development Squad from which teams are selected to take on other school's 1st XVs, 2nd/3rd or U16 XVs.

Teams enter the Middlesex and Daily Mail Cups. Our best result were our 2002/3 U15s who reached Daily Mail Quarter Finals. Many teams have won the Middlesex Cup; and various 7s Tournaments.

Our most successful individual players have been:
Steve Factor (1974) scrum half, (Richmond RFC) who won an Oxford Blue

Charles Wijeratna (1986)- centre who played for Oxford University against Samoa

Matthew Griffiths (no 8), Saul Berger (no 6) and Steve Hudson no 10) who all reached England U16 Squad in 1985, Matthew Captained England v Italy.

Simon Henderson (1978)- Prop; played for Rosslyn Park, Durham University and England Students.

Dan Luger (1994)- winger, England & British Lions; currently with Perpignan RFC

Dominic Waldouk (current)- cente; England U16 2003/4

Nick Styring, Alex Wijeratna and Tim Harrison all won Blues at Rugby League.

The School has often sent teams off on short tours within the UK or Western Europe. Our first major tour was 1992 to New York, Vermont & Monteal. Others have been:

1999 to South Afrca
2002 to Singapore, New Zealand & Fiji
2004 to Argentina, Chile & Brazil
